Salento is a peninsular section in South-Eastern Puglia. It’s bordered by the Adriatic Sea on the east coast and by the Ionian Sea on the west coast. This geographical section Salento was once called “Terra d’Otranto” and it included the Province of Lecce, almost the whole area of Brindisi and a part of Taranto (following the imaginary line that links Ostuni to Taranto).
A land gifted with a natural disposition towards tourism. One of a kind in its ability to comunicate different messages, to enchant with its myths and signs leaved by our ancestors, to catch the attention since it bears witness to cultural exchangins in the Mediterranean area. It intrigues you with the master craftsmen’s great masterpieces. It fascinates with its bright colours and sunny landscapes and of course it makes you smile of delight with its cuisine.
Coming from the north, Salento is at the back of Tavoliere di Puglia. These two territories are divided by a natural borderline draw with Trulli, typical white houses you can find in Alberobello and in our fields. In the inland the landscape is enriched with limestone bedrocks, the strong red colour of our fields, white houses and old palaces built of a limestone belonging to the group of calcarenites (a precious local stone called pietra leccese – Lecce stone). These beautiful old palaces rises among modern houses and they are a symbol of the history of this land. The rural landscape offers you the magnificent view of wide millenary olive groves and vineyards from which we produce rare wines and olive oils, a source of pride for this land. Along the coast you can admire sandy beaches, rocks and a clear sea. The rocky coast is high and irregular on the Adriatic side and flat on the Ionian side.
When you see Salento you’ll appreciate its magic atmosphere, wonderful sights, hot sun, blu sky, crystal clear sea, coast and baroque art. A mixture of art, culture, tourism and traditions which makes this land unique for its inhabitants and charming for visitors
